THE MONTHLY ECHO #September
Hi All!
Welcome to this month’s echo - a roundup of what’s been on my radar, what I’ve been pondering, and the gems I’ve stumbled across lately. Enjoy!
“Do not love half lovers. Do not entertain half friends. Do not live a half life…and do not die a half death.”
Kahlil Gibran
PERSONAL NEWS & VENTURES
AKKURAT Studios - Three new directors join the roster: Ace Norton, Matt Baron and Neels Castillon. P.S. Ciclope Festival is on in Berlin this week (Oct 6-8th).
58g - A new website is on its way. Soon. #Excited
Swinger Energy - The world's first craft energy drink, co-founded by my friend Duncan Winecoff. Five flavors, among them Trophy Wife (tangerine yuzu) and Bronze God (salted lime and coconut). Cheers, buddy.
TECH & DESIGN
On my desk:
20-30 Grok bots - Fun, but it comes down to how you brief them. Collecting data and writing analysis is really handy. Ours send automatic outreach emails and scrape websites and Instagram accounts for potential collaborations. An entertainment bot sends daily TV and movie releases, a travel buddy helps with itineraries and suggestions. In the end you need to get used to it. Most of the time I still do things myself and double-check everything. For minor no-brainer tasks it saves time.
ATP Sphere - Built with Claude: every tournament of the 2027 ATP Tour calendar on one globe. Spin it, click a pin for the details, or browse the full list of 66 entries.
What I'm excited about: Figure - Humanoid robots. Worth following.
Useful: Granola - AI notes for calls. It syncs with your calendar, starts on its own, and the notes are searchable and easy to share. There are hundreds of these tools, but Granola is sharp. Thanks Marcel.
ON THE WATCHLIST
Can You Play Every LA Muni in One Day? - Random Golf Club tries to play every public course in LA in a single day.
Google's latest moonshot to put machine learning in space - Google on putting machine learning into orbit.
MobLand, Season 2 - Back on Paramount+ since Sept 18 with Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. The Harrigans face new rivals. Just started.
Dark Matter, Season 2 - Apple TV, with Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly. New episodes weekly until Oct 30. Just started.
Digger - Alejandro G. Iñárritu's satirical black comedy with Tom Cruise as an oil tycoon, in cinemas since Oct 2. It didn't fully catch me, but Cruise's performance is amazing.
Verity - Michael Showalter's adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel, with Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, in cinemas since Oct 2. A struggling writer is hired to finish a bestselling author's book series and finds a hidden manuscript. Liked to location more than the movies, ha.
